H for Helping
Hi there, I'm Heather, sometimes known as H!
I began working as an independent support worker in January 2023 after leaving a role in the community service sector, needing something that worked around my busy family life. Originally, I traded as Connections to Recovery, a name that represented my support of people with addictions and mental health struggles, and the support services needed to pave the road to a better life. Over time, my client base broadened to include people with many types of disability, not just psychosocial.
So put simply - I'm H, and I'm here to help!
I've got a husband, three daughters, and more hobbies than spare time. A group of friends recently gave me the title of their 'hype girl' with the hashtag 'will do anything'. This applies to my personal and professional life - I turn up, I'll give anything a go, I cheer you on, I bring the fun, the laughs, and the can-do attitude. You probably want some more serious information....
Here are my qualifications: Diploma in Event Management, Diploma in Hospitality Management, Cert IV in Mental Health, Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs.
I'm trained in the following risk management areas: Medical First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, COPE overdose educator training, and Recognise and respond to domestic violence involving women with disability.
I am a proud volunteer, currently serving as a general committee member at Catani Netball Club and Catani Football Club, even though I don't know a thing about footy!
In 2025 I was awarded 'Best Club Person' of the Catani Netball Club.
Previously, I have volunteered on many community projects and in charitable organisations, two of my favourites were being a driving mentor in the L to P program, where I helped two young people achieve their licence, and being a volunteer at Olivia's Place, where I raised over $6000 in a campaign by shaving my head, and achieved the Lorraine Bradford pin for 300+ hours of service.
